Description
Summary:Improved mechanical properties of Aluminium Metal Matrix Composites (AMC) and their relatively reduced cost have made them attractive for wide range applications, such as automotive, aerospace, and electronics industries. In this work, metal matrix composite was fabricated from AA.354.0 (Al-Cu-Si) as matrix material reinforced with Al2O3 particles using stir casting method. The addition of Al2O3 particles was varied from 6% - 12wt%. Al2O3 particles were preheated to 2000C and then dispersed in 3 steps into molten aluminium. Hardness and tensile properties of each composites were evaluated before and after addition of Al2O3 particles. The result showed that the hardness increase with increasing of Al2O3 particles from 54.71 HB for pure AA.354.0 (Al-Cu-Si) and 95.5 HB for specimen with 12% Al2O3. The result also showed that tensile strength decrease with addition of Al2O3 particles due to porosity.
