Optimization Transport Cerium from Concentrate Xenotime Sand using Tubular Supported Liquid Membranes (TSLM) Technique)

Xenotime mineral (YPO4) is one of mineral resources of Rare Earth Elements (REEs) which is side product of the tin mining process in Bangka. Based on the monitoring of XRF against sand senotim resulted that Cerium is the second largest of REEs mineral after Yttrium that are used in the manufacture o...

Based on the monitoring of XRF against sand senotim resulted that Cerium is the second largest of REEs mineral after Yttrium that are used in the manufacture of glass, dyes, and as a catalyst in oil refining. In this study, Ce(IV) in the senotim mineral has separated by Tubular Supported Liquid Membranes (TSLM) technique through some treatments are senotim destruction, deposition of Th and U, membrane preparation and the liquid used, and also TSLM technique. Carrier is a mixture of TBP : D2EHPA = 25 : 75. Optimization of the separation process has done by variation process are concentrate pH of feed phase, acid type of receiving phase, and the best acid concentration of receiving phase. Measurement of REEs mineral using UV-Vis spectrophotometer at wavelength 528 nm with complex alizarin sulfonat showed the best condition of transport Ce(IV) obtained at pH 2,8 concentrate of feed phase and HCl 2 M of receiving phase. The result of characterization using ICP-AES against their feed phase that the content of Ce(IV) in the feed phase can be improved by TSLM technique, before the procces by 40% into 53% after procces. text
