Description
Summary:The physical condition of bridges will worsen along with the increasing of its age due to some factors. The appearing of chemical damage and biological corrosion may contribute to concrete damage and cause structural defect to the bridge. The evaluation of varied bridge elements is usually performed by using the data obtained from field observation. This kind of approach occurs some problems because the presented damage is not quantitative and much depends on qualitative criteria of the observer. Technology of TLS (Terrestrial Laser Scanner) can be utilized to gain graphical documentations and metrical bridges without needing to do direct contact with the damage area of the bridge. Therefore, this research aims to evaluate the utilization of intensity information from the laser scanner data to detect the area with the appearing water and vegetation (biological crusts), to analyse the level of effectiveness in inspecting bridges and to give quantitative information to the bridge management system.

The methodology of this research begins with literature studies, carries on with data acquisition, then ends with data processing that results area classification to the bridge pillar based on the intensity and estimation of wide area attached by biological crusts. The processing data which is used is registration and filtering. The obtained result is the classification of bridge pillar based on intensity value with scatter plot. The total area affected by biological crusts is amounted to be 11.281 m2.
