Description
Summary:Biogrouting is a technology that simulate the process of diagenesis, which is a transformation from grain sand to gravel sand. From that proces, this technology can be used to perform functional maintenance on rigid pavement. Material used in this technology can be alternatives to other conventional materials. Thus there needs to be a reserach on the characteristic of biogrouting materials. The functional damage is one type of damage that frequently occured in rigid pavement. The repair method used is patching. Actually the new technology of “biogrouting” was developed to repair that damage. This technology simulate the diagenesis method that can be used to repair the functional damage. This study aim to examine the “biogrouting mortar” as a repaired material as well as to examine its performance on the surface layer of rigid pavement system.

This research was conducted by the experimental method, consist of fine aggregate examination, compressive strength test, and flexural strength test. This study used two cylindrical test specimens at age of 7 days and 28 days, 15 samples of cubic specimens, at age of 3 days, 7 days, 14 days, 21 days, 28 days and 9 samples of test specimens at age of 28 days.

The results showed that the value of compressive strength of the mixture of biogrouting material was less than its value of the mortar mixture. The value of flexural strength of 3 (three) different beam conditions indicate that the beam specimen with damage and biogrouting material is greater than the beam specimen with damage and without biogrouting material. But those values are less than the beam specimen without damage and without biogrouting material.

Based on the entirely result tests, it is concluded that as a material, biogrouting material is not equivalent to conventional materials. However for repair of the functional damage on rigid pavement surface layer, biogrouting materials can be applied.
