Facing many challenges such as insufficient land area of 700 m2 and technical problem, TPS-SPA Tegalega is now challenged to be able to evolve itself into a Material Recovery Facility (in Indonesia is named TPS 3R). This change is constituted by a mandate from Urban Waste Management Master Plan of Bandung City 2014; wherein it is planned for all Waste Transfer Depo in Bandung have to be transformed into MRFs. The new MRF Tegalega has a maximum designed capacity of 4.71 ton waste/day. The waste input will be segregated using a manual sorting lane on a conveyor system. The remaining putrescible waste will be treated using windrow composting in 6 weeks. With waste composition of 44.75% putrescible waste and 30.58% saleable recyclable waste, this new MRF transports waste only 1.88 ton/day. With a total area of 1,530 m2, TPS 3R Tegalega has main facilities such as waste weighing station, handcarts recording station, pre-sorting area, manual sorting lane, negative sorting area, packaging area, recovered material storage room, waste shredder, composting facility, and compost storage area. Additional facilities such as security post, office, WCs, small mosque, drainage, and parking lot are available to support waste management operational demands. At its maximum capacity, this MRF will reduce waste transported to regional landfill from 7 rit/day into 1 rit/day. text |
