Summary: | High performance rotary forcespinning (RFS) and flux measurement systems have been successfully developed. The high performance RFS has an air temperature and rotational speed system based on a dimmer circuit. The dimmer circuit is used to adjust the AC voltage applied to the heating element and the single phase induction motor of the RFS. Both systems apply a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control system to maintain stability of air temperature and rotational speed. The settling time of air temperature regulation system are 739, 917, and 1014 s for each setting temperatures 35, 40 and 45° C, while the settling time in the rotational speed regulation system are 59, 62, and 67 s for each setting speed 8000, 12000, and 16000 rpm. Fiber fabrication results using RFS with temperature variations indicates the effect of temperature on fiber diameter size in which the diameter of fabricated fibers at 35, 40, and 45° C are 3.182, 2.883, and 2.488 μm, respectively. Fiber fabrication results using RFS with variations of rotational speed both without and with the speed regulation indicates that there is influence of speed stability on fiber homogenenity. Variation coefficient value of the fabricated fibers in the absence of control system at speeds of 8000, 12000, and 16000 rpm were 0.17, 0.26 and 0.30, respectively. While variation coefficient value of fiber that was fabricated with control system at speed 8000, 12000, and 16000 rpm respectively are 0.08, 0.08, and 0.08. Flux measurement systems were developed using electronic pressure regulators, pressure sensors, digital balance, radio frequency modules, and graphic user interface. Setting and retrieving data from the system is done through a computer without using a cable. Good results are obtained in the calibration and testing of electronic pressure regulators, pressure sensors, and digital balance. In the calibration process the value of r2 obtained is the lowest of 0.99996 on the duty cycle calibration to the electronic pressure regulator output. Also in testing process the biggest error is at 0.4% point which is a relative error measurement of digital balance. Measurements of water filter membrane flux have also been performed in two modes namely fixed pressure mode and pressure increase mode. The value of the membrane flux is greater when the pore size becomes larger and there is significant difference in the increment of the flux value on membrane with certain pore size. |
