Summary: | This final project is carried out in PT Genteng Terreal’s finished-product warehouse.

PT Genteng Terreal produces many variants of roof tiles with various types and

colours. Currently, PT Genteng Terreal’s finished-product warehouse does not have

a good layout. This is indicated with many products are stacked above another

without a certain storage policy. This is bringing on difficulty of counting stock on

practice and order picking time beyond management’s target. This research proposes

storage policy and design of warehouse layout which can make counting of stock

more easier and minimize order picking time.

The requirement of warehouse area is determined based on the maximum inventory

amount that was needed by the factory to meet customer orders. After the

requirement of warehouse area had been obtained, the finished-product warehouse

layout design was developed. The designing purpose is to make a picking zone

warehouse which can minimizes order picking time. Picking zone will be made by

clustering products that picking together. Four warehouse layout alternatives are

evaluated. The selection for the best layout design alternative was based on similarity

philosophy, products that should delivery on the same time must be stored on the

same area. These alternatives are evaluated by comparing distance of the forklift trip

to pick products in the same order. Alternative that has the shortest distance will be

chosen as the solution.
