Description
Summary:
This research aimed to design the production system of propolis and honey from stingless bee (Tetragonula laeviceps) using a Modular Tetragonula Hive. This research was conducted at two different coffee plantations Cibodas, West Bandung Regency and Cileunyi Wetan, Bandung Regency for 3 months by observing 15 colonies at each location. The important properties of propolis and honey were characterized to determine and compare the quality of the products. The average productivity of propolis for both locations increased until it reaches at maximum value on the 10th week of cultivation time, the productivity of propolis obtained at Cibodas (3,4 ± 1,1 g/colony/two weeks) was higher than those at Cileunyi Wetan (2,9 ± 1,7 g/colony/ two weeks). The productivity of honey after 3 months of cultivation were 0,4 g/colony (Cibodas) and 3,4 g/colony (Cileunyi Wetan). Flavonoid content of propolis extract from Cibodas (14,8 ± 6,2 mg/g qE) was higher from than those from Cileunyi Wetan (11,42 ± 4,4 mg/g qE). Vitamin C and antioxidant content of honey from both places were determined with honey obtained from Cibodas had the highest Vitamin C up to 69,5 mg/100g and antioxidant content up to 0,12% (IC 50).
