<p align="justify"The need for shelter in Indonesia has not been fully fulfilled, especially in big cities. this then led to the formation of non-formal settlements such as urban kampongs in order to meet the needs of the dwelling. The urban village itself is a form of inability of people from middle to lower economy class to attain formal housing. Regardless, the urban village gives the impression of a shabby and unfit environment as a dwelling. Refurbishment against the urban areas had been done by the government To provide a habitable residential environment such as Rumah Susun, but Rumah Susun provided generate a new problem that caused the kampong resident unwilling to live in the Rumah Susun, one of the causes is the difference in habit of settling funds as well they are accustomed to living in landed places so that foreigners occupy the flat tangible apartment. This thesis will discuss about the design of flats with urban characteristics approach, so it is expected that the community can receive new housing in the form of flats. The final result of thesis is design criteria of flats based on the characteristics of urban kampong that simulated on kampung Tamansari RW 11 city of Bandung.<p align="justify"
