The easy access on information is not being handled wisely. The information found on books, on the other hand, is highly reliable. Library is one form of formal institution that holds and controls such information. Sadly, the handling and development of libraries in Indonesia has never been the primary concern of our government. This lack of concern is degrading the performance of public libraries. Libraries need to evolve. The stigma that says library is a quiet and boring place needs to be changed. According to Ray Oldenburg’s third place theory, public spaces should be a place for people to connect outside of their home and workplace. Libraries should be a place for communities to gather, to interact, to work together, and eventually will strengthen their own lives. Bandung is well known for its diverse community and therefore is one of the best place to start redefining the library community. Designing library as an urban community place in Bandung is the mission of the project. The project will be presented in the form of paper submission. There are three main goals that needed to be reached in order to accomplish the mission: redefining reading as a lifestyle, making a comfortable learning space, and using Bandung’s heritage identity as the design context. Nowadays people tend to think that reading is a hobby, whereas in the other parts of the world, reading is considered to be an everyday activity: a lifestyle. People who read more are undeniably more educated. A comfortable learning space is a must when designing a library. Enough lighting, comfortable air conditioning, easy circulation, easy access on books must be integrated throughout the design. As a historical town, Bandung has quite a lot of disintegrated old buildings. The last goal is to reuse the old building and making it more alive by defining a new function for the building: adaptive reuse.<p align="justify"> text |
