Description
Summary:Hard Chromium Plating is widely applied in the industry. A lot of demand for in the industry to have a thick coating surface. However, as increasing thickness leads to decreased bonding strength and the emergence of macro cracks in the coating results. For that done a study on the influence of surface preparation with variations of treatment shot peening, sand blasting and polishing. With this treatment is expected to produce a bond on the interface better. There are also variations of coating method with two variations of conventional electroplating and flow plating. With this treatment is expected to produce a good coating without macro cracking. The coating results were characterized using an optical microscope, hard test microvickers and EPMA. The surface roughness values show significantly different results between the three surface preparations. From cross-sectional observations, the coating bonds on sand blasting and shot peening steel showed better interface indications than polishing. From the observed thickness, the flow plating results tend to provide a layer surface with a more homogeneous thickness than conventional electroplating. From the hardness, flow plating results tend to show a relatively higher hardness value than conventional electroplating results.
