Description
Summary:Recovery Factor is one of the most important factor in oil and gas industry. It can be increased by Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) method. This method can be optimized by several injection patterns that can be applied in a filed. However, there are many fields with no patterned wells so it is difficult to do injection with pattern. Moreover, inclination and heterogenity of reservoir can make patterned injection ineffective. One of simple pattern which can be used in those fields is direct line drive.

This study is conducted to improve recovery factor using surfactant flooding in direct line drive pattern. Surfactant injection are used after the reservoir is produced by water flooding using the same injection pattern. Water flooding and surfactant flooding is conducted with various rate to see the effect of sweeping. In heterogenous reservoir, this method can provide results that are not optimal due to channelling formed after the injection fluid reaches the production well (breakthrough). Modification of the injection pattern is done by closing and opening certain production wells to overcome the channelling problem and improve sweep efficiency so recovery factor can be optimized. This study is conducted in a inclined heterogenous reservoir with injection wells at water zone and production wells at the top of oil zone. The simulation was conducted using Eclipse simulator software.

The study results show that recovery factor from modified direct line drive mechanism is the highest among other mechanisms. Using surfactant injection, recovery factor with modified direct line drive can reach 29.82% and with direct line drive can reach 28.59%. In contrast with previous results, recovery factor only reaches 16.61% using water injection.
