The research was held at Balikpapan Bay, East Kalimantan. Sampling was conducted on October 31, 2015 at five stations at a depth of 0.2 d, 0.6 d, and 0.8 d. The method used in this research is analyzing and assessing water quality parameters that affect the development of marine microalgae in water, and can make a suitability matrix waters are processed based on the weights and scores to look for suitability as microalgae cultivated land. Also used supporting data such as surface temperature and chlorophyll-a from satellite imagery Aqua MODIS 2011-2015 and salinity from satellite imagery Aquarius 2012-2014. From the research, types of microalgae found in the waters of the Balikpapan Bay is a type of microalgae Baccilariophyceae and Dinophyceae, with the spread of microalgae to be greater toward the bay at stations 4 and 5 in near the beach with a concentration of microalgae as many as 1280 ind / L and 1264 ind / L. Based on the results of correlation and significance tests show that the water quality parameters that affect the marine microalgae are temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, pH, and dissolved ions such as phosphates, nitrites, and calcium. The results of the analysis of the suitability of the waters, shows that at station 1 in offshore and station 5 in near the beach is the station that goes to the appropriate category for the cultivation of microalgae in Balikpapan Bay waters, with suitability value 17,67 and 18,00.<palign="justify"> text
