The past climatic variation shows repetition pattern in a certain time interval could be used as a refference to predict climatic condition in the future. Some paleoclimatic research have been done in Indonesian region concluded that there were climatic variations during Pleistosen to Holocene. On November - December 2017, Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia did the expedition called Ekspedisi Widya Nusantara to understand the oceanographic and geologic character along West Sumatra Waters through grab core and gravity core. West Sumatra Waters have been choosen as the research location because it provides a unique geological and oceanographic conditon and also has good reservation on paleoclimatic record. Meanwhile the research did by the writer aim to know the characteristic of sedimen, chemical element, and foraminefera, in order to unsderstand the climate change. Gravity core with sample code EW17 - 09 and 200 cm length. The analysis used on this research are granulometric analysis, X – Ray Fluorescenece, and foraminefera.

From granulometric analysis is obtained 16 facies that consist of fine silt - medium silt sediment deposited by pelagic suspension mechanism. The result from chemical analysis shows 12 major chemical element that experienced 6 pattern of changing in general. It has been obtaind 23 plankton foramineferal species, benton foraminefera, also kind of gastropod on the sample. Plankton foraminefera shows the changing pattern on the collection and assemblage which is used as the main proxy to the climatic reconstruction. Based on granulometric analysis, X - Ray Fluorescence, and foraminefera it has been concluded that climate change happened during the last Pleistocene to Holocene in West Sumatra Waters. There was seven pattern of climatic change condition that identified as : The Last Pleistocene (< 11.700 BP), HTC 6 (11700 - 9000 BP), HTC 5 (9000 - 7000 BP), HTC 4 (7000 - 6000 BP), HTC 3 (6000 - 4000 BP), HTC 2 (4000 - 2000 BP) , HTC 1 (2000 BP - Recent). Beside that, there are also recorded some important event such 8,2 Cooling Event, Mid Holocene Peak, 4,2 Cooling Event, Medieval Warm, dan Little Ice Age.

text
