The research area has 6.25 km2, mapped with scale 1 : 10,000. The purposes of this research are to determine the engineering geology condition and to analyze the bearing capacity of rock and soil in the site plan of Semarang–Solo Highway STA 22–24.5 and surrounding areas. Geomorphology of the research area consists of pyroclastic flow hills and folding hils with slope around 0°–70°. Engineering geology condition of research area can be devided into Clay-Silt Unit, Clay-Sand Unit, Silty Clay Unit, Pyroclastic Breccia Unit and Sandstone Unit. The allowable bearing capacity value of shallow foundation at 0–15.5 m depth in BW-2 borehole is 5.62–16.33 ton/m2, BW-3 borehole is 6.96–22.60 ton/m2, BW-9 borehole is 13.24–22.60 ton/m2 and BW-11a borehole is 6.83–21.21 ton/m2. The allowable bearing capacity value of deep foundation at 0–34 m depth in BW-2 borehole is 4.7–240.2 ton. The value of bearing capacity is influenced by several factors such as soil type, clay activity, engineering properties and water condition. Non-cohesive soils will give a higher bearing capacity than cohesive soils. The higher soil activity (A>1,25) will makes the bearing capacity value become lower. text
