INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/25207 The research area is located in Jonggon, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, Kalimantan Timur Province. The research is focused to understand the rank, type, quality, depositional environment, and the potential of the coal in the research area. Analyses done in the research consist of organic petrographic analyses such as vitrinite reflectance analysis and maceral composition analysis, while chemistry analysis was proximate analysis. The research area is divided into three prospection blocks which are block A, block B, and block C. Based on the organic petrographic analysis and chemistry analysis that had been done, generally, coal in the research area is ranked from subbituminous B up to subbituminous A, type of high huminites up to high huminites/vitrinites coal. Coal in the research area is known to have low up to high concentration of mineral materials, very low up to very high concentration of ash, and low up to high concentration of sulphur. Based on the TPI and GI rates, it is interpreted that coal in block A is deposited in the telematics zone of wet forest swamp with an indication of upper delta plains. Coal in block B and C is indicated to be deposited in the limnic zone, marsh mire with an indication of lower delta plains. The estimation of the inferred resource is 2,332,522 tons which is concentrated in block A and block B. Coal which is potential to be used for power plants is 577,017 tons located in block A. text
