Private forest in Sawahdadap Village is located around Gunung Geulis, Sumedang, West Java with an area of 31.77 Ha that needs to be managed properly. Indonesia Ecolabel Institute (LEI) develops a Sustainable Community-Based Forest Management (PHBML) certification scheme as the standard for forest management carried out by the communities in the form of an individual and a community sustainably. One of aspects that is assessed in the PHBML Certification is the social aspect. This study aims to determine the feasibility of private forest business in Sawahdadap Village, Cimanggung District, Sumedang Regency based on opened, medium, and closed land covers obtained from the result of the map interpretation results using ArcGIS software; to calculate the contribution percentage of private forest management results againts to the farmers’ total income; and to describe the institutional system in the private forest of Sawahdadap Village. The business feasibility is determined through collecting data of tree standing volume; the number of intercrops; the average of land tax charged to the farmers, sale prices of timbers and intercrops, equipment procurement costs, and labor costs. Meanwhile the analysis of business feasibility uses the Discounted Cash Flow method consists the value of Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), Benefit-Cost Ratio (BCR) and Payback Period (PP). Interview using Purposive Sampling are conducted with 38 respondents, in order to calculate the percentage of contribution and institutional description. The results showed that the average business feasibility value of Sawahdadap Village private forest using an interest rate of 7% on an opened land cover is PP = 7 years and 3 months, NPV = Rp.467,262.00, IRR = 12.71%, BCR = 1.02; on the medium land cover is PP = 5 years and 6 months, NPV = Rp.2,446,156.00, IRR = 33.33%, BCR = 1.18; and on the closed land cover is PP = 4 years and 11 months, NPV = Rp. 4,633,969.00, IRR = 36.73%, BCR = 1.36. Based on the NPV, IRR, BCR, and PP values, Sawahdadap private forest business is feasible. On the average, the contribution percentage of private forest management against to the total farmers’ total income is 54%. In general, the institutional system of the Sawahdadap private forest can be classified as informal. Institutional capacity is still limited in providing assistance such as seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, etc., counseling on land management, conducting activities (such as regular meetings and comparative studies). Decisions are made through a system of consultation. Private forests institution of Sawahdadap Village has its organizational structure but has not been conducted according to its ideal function. text
