The properties of hard chromium layer has high hardness, good corrosion resistant and wear resistant. Because of great properties of hard chromium layer, it’s used in steel plating used in many technical component. To get high quality layer, we must do research and development by varying some parameters in hard chromioum electroplating. Some parameters on hard chromium electroplating are temperature, current density, bath composition, and anode-cathode distance. <br /> In this research, temperature and current density will be varied to study the effect on the quality of hard chromium layer. Electroplating do in 60 minutes with temperature are 50, 55, and 60 ˚C and current density 70, 80, dan 90 A/dm2. And then to see the effect on thickness and microstructure, we use metallography. Result of this research showed that maximum hardness of the layer was on 55˚C with current density was 80 A/dm2 ; 1128 VHN. Maximum thickness was 117,15 μm with 50 ˚C and 80 A/dm2 current density. After that, we do XRD characterization to study lattice distortion and the effect on properties of hard chromium layer.<p align="justify"> text |
