MEASUREMENT OF TECHNOLOGY CONTRIBUTION LEVEL OF INDUSTRI HILIR TEH (IHT) PT PERKEBUNAN NUSANTARA VIII

Downstream Industry of Tea or Industri Hilir Teh plant Panglejar (IHT Panglejar) is one of the Perkebunan Nusantara VIII Pte Ltd’s business units which is engages in tea processing and packing. Currently, IHT Panglejar is experiencing a decrease in performance because it lacks of technological contribution knowledge, thus, long-term business strategy is relatively difficult to formulate. Therefore, it is necessary to measure technological contribution level at IHT Panglejar to formulate relevant technological strategy. <br /> <br /> To measure technological contribution level, technometric method (UNESCAP, 1989b) is used. The technological components measured in this research are technoware, humanware, infoware, and orgaware. IHT Panglejar is expected to become the second IHT owned by Perkebunan Nusantara VIII Pte Ltd which has similar situation and condition with Downstream Industry of Tea or Industri Hilir Teh plant Panyileukan (IHT Panyileukan). Therefore, in this research, IHT Panyileukan acts as a comparison object. The result of technological capability measurement (represented by technology component added) shows that the technological capability of IHT Panglejar is lower (has a value of Rp122.041.694,85) than technological capability of IHT Panyileukan (has a value of Rp544.272.366,54). <br /> <br /> By combining the measurement result of technological contribution level with business growth potential value and market position value of IHT Panglejar, the positioning of technological strategy of IHT Panglejar can be done. IHT Panglejar is in the position of "question marks", while the expected position of IHT Panglejar is "star". Based on the different positions, the relevant strategies are investing in the components of technoware and humanware, and improving the infoware. The investment is expected to make IHT Panglejar in "star" position.
