Summary: | Social environment outside the home and changing work patterns could make the

intensity of family interaction decrease. Living room is one of the spaces in the

house that can be used to interact with family members. The design of the living

room in the home becomes the main thing to support the way families interact in

terms of social change. This study aims to see the types of interactions that occur,

in accordance with the elements and configurations that support social

interaction itself. Departing from research that is often known by the term of

synomorphy, which means the actions of people are coordinated with or 'fit' the

physical features or objects in the setting that is designed, arranged, or placed in

such a way that residents treat what is in the facility. The method used was

qualitative-descriptive where data collecting used triangulation technique:

observation, interview, and documentation. The Analysis was performed by

identifying trends in the social interaction phenomenon obtained, then attributed

with the elements of space. The results in this study indicate that physical access,

visual access, and furniture (chair) support the activities of interaction. However,

these elements should be applied to consideration of distance selection, spatial

transition, object arrangement, and focal point laying in order to proceed

sustainable interaction process. |
