The scope of Jekdong wayang kulit art culture becomes unique when a wayang kulit culture grows and develops in Arek culture as an independent folk culture. There is still not much attention from the academic world, encouraging this research to be carried out as a contribution to the development and sustainability of Jekdong wayang art in the future. This study focuses on the discussion of the phenomenon of difference in appearance in Jekdong puppet show puppets in three different periods.

Differences in appearance were observed in the four figures of the Jekdong wayang puppets with the period of manufacture in the 1960s, 1990s, and 2014s. Samples of Jekdong puppets figures chosen include Semar, Bagong, Bethara Kala and Gathotkaca Kurdha which are often shown in Jekdong puppet shows. The analysis process will be examined based on a qualitative approach with the instruments of ethnographic analysis Spradley which is supported by the operation of meaning based on semiotics theory.

The results of the analysis show that differences in terms between periods, show a close attachment to the value of the character of the Arek cultural community as a part of folk culture that is full of innocence, the influence of Islamic values of coastal communities and elite cultural values of Javanese society. It is hoped that with this research, it can provide scientific contributions to Jekdong puppet show puppets in a scientific standpoint of design. text
