It is necessary to propose a new criteria, the criteria based on the syar'i proposition of the month and the results of studies of astronomy. The proposed new criteria should seek the point of contact of the parties concerned to be a mutual agreement. The proposed single criterion is an arc of light, since the arc of light can be associated with other parameters. Determination of the arc of light as a single criterion required more analysis of the position and visibility of the young crescent. <br /> <br /> Using data collection and descriptive analysis with a rational approach, then we solved problem. Data used here from Sopwan (2008) and using a software, Python, the data are processed. There are limitations on the data processing due to the limitations in the equations for the correction of the position of the Moon and the Sun. In this opportunity we choose location Pelabuhan Ratu as case study. The value of arc of light, as a single criterion of 7°, which is coincident with the Danjon Limit. The value appropriate for naked eye observation of hilal (a young moon crescent, which the earliest visible after conjunction). The value of arc of light can be applied in all parts of the world, so for circumpolar locations where the Sun has always above horizon, the single criteria of arc of light can be applied to determine the beginning of the month. text
