According to 2013 General Health Research, up to 14 million of the population in Indonesia has experienced symptoms of depression and anxiety (the majority of it is in the urban area), and that does not include those who do not report their condition. Considering the huge cost and effort needed to treat major depressive disorder, preventive measures are deemed more effective to decrease the number of population affected by depression. From many preventive methods, the method used in this project is passive psychoeducation, a one-way interventive method of spreading information, educating, and giving counsel about psychiatric disorders. The primary target of this psychoeducation project is high school students, because the age range of late teens is the average range of early depression offset. The media used is 2D animation, in accordance to the preference of target audience, its potential to stimulate cognitive process, and ease of access. The style of 2-dimentional animation is chosen because of its minimum distraction as it puts more emphasize on the transfer of information over immersion and aesthetics offered by 3D animation. Moreover, its flexible and imaginative visual characteristics are more suited to convey symbolic visual message compared to the realistic trait of 3D animation. After doing researches through literature study, spreading questionnaire, and interview with an expert, it is determined that the contents of psychoeducation will be about the risk and symptoms of depression, the difference between depression and common sadness, and also the knowledge of cognitive distortion that can lead to depression. This contents will be delivered in a 2D animation using several characters as the driving force of the plot. There are in total four teenage characters and ten personification characters of cognitive distortions, along with symbolic visual style to ease the explaining of abstract concept of psychology. Hopefully, this educational animation project can increase the awarness of major depressive disorder for highschool students. text
