Summary: | Braga Street corridor is a cultural heritage area which needs to be preserved, since most of buildings which located at the Braga Street are considered as heritage buildings and an identity of Bandung. Not a long time ago, Braga Street was known as the most expensive retail area in Bandung, with “The Best Retail Area in Archipelago” as its title. But time over time, Braga Street degraded both physically and economically. Braga‟s degradation occurs since development of Bandung retail areas in 1980, which then causing a downfall of the trading activity at the Braga Street.

Bandung City Government has attempted to increase the vitality of Braga Street in various ways, either in the form of reconstruction, rebuild, as well as with organizing event. However, none of those attempts have succeeded to revitalize Braga Street. One of revitalization efforts undertaken by the government is to organize events called Braga Culinary Night. Braga Culinary Night has a concept to create ambience in a society for enjoying heritage buildings. But the implementation of Braga Culinary Night assessed as not siding to the local community, because it does not improve welfare level of the community. It leads to lack of social acceptance from the local community to Braga Culinary Night as a revitalization policy. Social acceptance from the local community become important in a policy implementation process because without social acceptance, expected policy outcome would not realized. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to recommend alternatives to do to increase the social acceptance from the local community to the implementation of Braga Culinary Night.

This study used a pseudo evaluation approach to assess the level of public acceptance and identify the causes of lack of social acceptance in the implementation of Braga Culinary Night. Public acceptance level of Braga Culinary Night gains 7 from 31, so it identifies into range “not accepted”. The main problem which cause low acceptance level is local community are not involved actively in the process of Braga Culinary Night. Local community not placed as the committee for the implementation of the program, so that the level of public acceptance of the program becomes low.

Result of this study is to recommend alternatives to do to increase the social acceptance from the local community to the implementation of Braga Culinary Night. However the proposed action to improve public acceptance is to handed the implementation of Braga Culinary Night fully to the local community with adequate assistance, improve communication both among communities in the Braga region as well as with the local governments, and repair mechanism of sales stand at Braga Culinary Night by providing more servings of local communities. |
