Summary: | Fabric manipulation is already popular in the international fashion world, but in Indonesia itself the usage of it’s techniques are lacking and largely unexplored. It is not well-known in the community of ordinary citizens, making it an opportunity to showcase uniqueness in an oversaturated market.

Men is an ideal target market in this age where boys start to realize the importance of their appearance. The menswear industry has a high demand while the stock (of variations) remain low.

The Megalara garuda wasp became an object of inspiration based on the desire to instill an endemic peculiarity of Indonesia to the work. That species is currently threatened to be extinct and the designation of it as the project’s theme is an effort to relay knowledge, while also being a form of tribute.

Leather, scuba fabric and cotton/linen are chosen to be the primary materials to give off an accurate image and visual form of the object used as inspiration; while the techniques (smocking, tucking, and apply & layer) are selected by their compatibility to menswear. The final product is a collection of apparel for men that hopefully reflects the look of the Megalara garuda wasp and exudes an image of masculinity and elegance. |
