Summary: | In the postpartum physiological recovery process, mother as a patient in the hospital is often experiencing psychological problems. By knowing that, pregnant women would tend to choose kinds of hospital facilities which are comfortable for their labor services. The interior elements of inpatient room were the closest environment to the patient, by the appropriate color selection, it affects emotions and reducing the psychological burden. The selection of color stimulus for an interior, especially in healthcare facilities has consideration, such as a cultural background approach. This research is intended to identify the effect of color which adopted from the cultural background towards patient’s preference response in Bandung. <br />

This research was conducted through experiment by composing visual stimulus of inpatient room from three different hospitals with four kinds of color stimulus based on Bandung society preference with the Sundanese cultural background. There are 15 interior displays presented with Virtual Reality media, which physically respondents can feel the color stimulus despite being in the virtual space. Experiments were conducted on 30 respondents with female gender and being in a pregnancy stage of three to nine months. The experimental data collection is quantitative and conducted through questionnaires. Data analysis was conducted using qualitative approach through assessment of the patient's perception and preference tendency toward the environment in a healthcare facility. <br />

The research found that environment with green stimulus has a positive influence towards the ideal perception criteria and become the preference of Bandung society in choosing inpatient room of maternity-hospital. Finally, this study recommends the composition of a dominant green color scheme for interior design planning at inpatient units in supporting patient's psychological comfort. |
