According to Nagy and Verakis (1983), coal explosion is affected by several variables, namely variation of chemical composition in coal that is volatile matter content, coal dust particle size, and concentration of coal dust. This experiment will be focused on the influence of coal dust concentration on coal explosion with coal matter volatile equal to 39.43% and particle size between 53-74 &#120583;m. The concentrations of coal dust selected are 100 g/m3, 150 g/m3, 200 g/m3 and 250 g/m3. This concentration value is determined based on the lower explosive limit of coal dust in the air based on the weight is 60 g/m3 for the occurrence of explosion. In this research, determining the explosion of coal is done through determination of maximum pressure value and maximum pressure increase and coal deflagration index by using Explosion Chamber sized 10 L based on standard test of ASTM Standard E1226 that is power of pyrotechnic of 5 kJ with pressed air on dust canister by 20 bar and in gas valve mixed gas mixture above 10 bar. The maximum explosion pressure value (Pmax) at each concentrations of coal dust (g/m3) 100, 150, 200, and 250 respectively (bar) are 1.11; 9.00; 8.31; and 3.90. The magnitude of this maximum pressure value is affected by the power generated by the ignitor and the grain size of coal dust. In addition, the maximum explosion pressure increase value ([dP/dt]) at concentrations of coal dust (g/m3) 100, 150, 200, and 250 respectively (bar / sec) are 2.11; 106.84; 18.45; dan 5.26. From the highest maximum pressure increase value for this particle size distribution ([dP/dt]) we have a deflagration index of 23.02 bar.m/s so that this coal is categorized as coal dust with weak explosion and can generate explosive power 7,481 MJ/kg. Concentration of coal dust itself affects the explosion of coal and can cause maximum explosion at a certain concentration and saturate at a certain concentration after the maximum explosion. <br /> text
