Description
Summary:
Based on observations conducted in February 2018, it is seen that around the ITB Ganesha Campus, there are 5 online motorcycle taxi points which indicated a high demand for that service, and most demand allegedly came from ITB students who are the largest population in the campus. In fact, according to Law No. 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation, ojek - or other two-wheeled vehicles are not classified into public transportation. In addition, referring to another observation conducted in September 2018, there was a tendency that the number of online motorbike fleets around the ITB Ganesha campus increased, as evidenced by the spread of drivers who did not just wait at the base, but had spread and waited on the sidewalks. The emerging trend of online motorcycle taxi will potentially cause various impacts in the future, both micro and macro impacts, such as the environmental irregularities around ITB Ganesha campus, traffic congestion around the campus, to the deterioration of air quality due to the increase in the number of private vehicles. Therefore, it is needed to divert online motorcycle taxi users into modes of more sustainable four-wheeled vehicles, such as city transportation microbus, taxis, or buses. Before designing the strategies to divert online motorcycle taxi users to other modes, firstly it is needed to identify the causes of the selection of online motorcycle taxi as a mode for college travel according to the perceptions of ITB students through determining the factors that significantly influence the demand for online motorcycle taxi. That is the purpose of this research. For the data collection, it was conducted by observation, interviews with online motorcycle taxi drivers around ITB Ganesha Campus, and questionnaires to ITB students. The data analysis process was carried out using descriptive analysis methods and generalized poisson regression. The research then resulted in the fact that there was indeed a high demand for online
motorcycle taxi services around the ITB Ganesha Campus. Also, out of the 22 modal selection variables that considered to have an effect on the demand of online motorcycle taxi as the dependent variables, only 8 variables are proven to be significant, namely: age, income, ownership/availability of private vehicles,
online motorcycle taxi fees, convenience, level of travel disturbance, household structure, and availability of pedestrian paths.
