Summary: |
The THD Field is located in the Lower Kutai Basin, in the eastern part boundary of the Modern Mahakam Delta. The study was performed in the central part of the THD Field. This field is actively producing hydrocarbon, i.e. gas. Unoficially, the stratigraphy in the THD Field is divided into two zones, i.e. Main Zone and Shallow Zone. This study is performed in the Main Zone. This zone belongs to Kampung Baru and Balikpapan groups, which are Middle – Late Miocene in age.
The purpose of this study is to estimate pore pressure, determine top of overpressure, analyse overpressure generating mechanism, and analyse the relationship between overpressure and geologic condition in the study area. The analyses were performed by processing the data from 21 wells in the study area. The data include wireline log (gamma ray, density, sonic, neutron, and resistivity), pressure and temperature data, well report, and vitrinite reflectance.
The result of this research shows that the top of overpressure in the study area is located at the depth around 3500 – 4000 m TVDSS, with the magnitude of pore pressure at the top of overpressure is around 35 – 40 MPa. The overpressure generating mechanism is non-loading due to hydrocarbon generation. The distribution of top of overpressure in the study area has a relation with net to gross, in which the top of overpressure is shallower to the east. This circumstance is caused by deltaic sediment progradation to the eastern part of the study area, and therefore, the more to the eastern part of the study area, the shallier the sediment.
|
