| Summary: | <p align ="justify">Hazardous waste management system in ITB Campus particularly in several laboratories over the past years is considered was not running well yet; there is no proper management system; did not systematic, and without adequate input technology. The purpose of this study was to evaluate and suggest about hazardous waste management in laboratories of ITB based on the existing regulations. The methods used were distributing questionnaires while interviews to the parties of laboratories, also making the documentation directly in the laboratories. The amount of each type of hazardous waste wascalculated. Calculation results show that acid waste generated amounted to 38.19 kg/week, base 43.91 kg/week, solvent 83.91 kg/week, infectious waste 0.152 kg/week, heavy metals 27.67 kg/week, and the mixture chemistry 278.98 kg/week. Looking at the number and types of hazardous waste, management efforts are different for each type of waste. Although there have been attempts minimization of each laboratory, the effort is still very limited and can not be sustained. ITB truthfully had a plan to build a hazardous waste management center building next to PPS ITB, but the design and the location is not satisfied yet. Therefore, this Final Assignment is made with the hope that the suggestions inside will be an alternative choice for hazardous waste management, and so will be an alternative choice for making a hazardous waste management center building.<p align ="justify"> |
