Description
Summary:
Currently there are many methods of topographic mapping with various technologies from the conventional to the modern by high technology in terrestial or extraterrestrial mapping. Terrestrial topographic mapping using Laser Scanning technique is a just developed method based on high technologies, hopefully it can be a more efficient method of mapping than the other terrestrial mapping methods. This research compare the mapping method using technology Terrestrial Laser Scanner (TLS) to Electronic Total Station (ETS) technology.

Average error value from all registration data by TLS measurements are 0,004 m. This study shows Digital Elevation Model (DEM) generated TLS showing higher level of detail, it is showed by total point used to generate DEM are 223.460 points with point density 0,25 m on optimum scanning area.

TLS is suitable and quickly done for the mapping area with a very large scale (>1:1000). In addition, based on time and human resources for mapping on the same area measurement, mapping by TLS requires time and human resources is less than mapping by ETS. Disadvantages of mapping using TLS is high cost renting the tools. Therefore, the TLS is more suitable to be used on high accuracy mapping, such as the reconstruction of building, cut and fill survey, documentation of historical, and building or heritage.
