To foster a successful local economic development, it must be able to improve the quality of life of local communities, reduce inequality, and develop the economic which supports the sustainability of resources and production. In Pangalengan District, one of the resources that became the basis of economic development was coffee plantations. Perum Perhutani established the Forest Village Community Institution (LMDH) as a forum for coffee farmers to develop their own capacity, mainly their ability to cultivate and preserve the environment. At present, the development of coffee plantations in Pangalengan District has not been able to meet the economic needs of the community and has not yet considered the concept of sustainable plantations. The theory used as the basis of this research is the theory of Local Economic Development by Blakely and Leigh (2013). The research was conducted using a mixed method: qualitative method to find out the implementation of local economic development strategies, and quantitative method to measure the sustainability of local economic development. Interviews were conducted with 18 informants and questionnaires were distributed to 64 farmers for two LMDH coffee fields in Pangalengan District, namely LMDH Rahayu Tani and LMDH Kubang Sari. The results of the study show the low contribution of LMDH in implementing the strategy influences the sustainability of local economic development, especially in reducing inequality and the realization of sustainable economic development. If there is no immediate increase in the contribution of LMDH to the implementation of local economic development strategies, coffee plantations may be unsustainable and cannot be used as a basis for local economic development in Pangalengan District.

Keywords: contributions, local economic development, coffee plantations, Forest Village Community Institutions (LMDH)

text
