The problem that occur by corrosion on oil and gas industry such as leak on pipeline, lower of <br /> <br /> production rate, health and safety, and environment pollution. One way to solve the problem of corrosion <br /> <br /> on internal section of the pipe is by using an organic compound as corrosion inhibitor. 2-Thiohydantoin as <br /> <br /> organic compound has been studied as corrosion inhibitor with a good result, so the derivative of 2- <br /> <br /> thiohydantoin will be studied next. Derivative of 2-thiohydantoin that will be studied in this experiment is <br /> <br /> 5-{2-(Methylsulfanyl) ethyl}-2-thioxo-4-imidazolidinone or 5MSETI as its abbrevation. 5MSETI <br /> <br /> compound is synthesize with reflux from thiourea and L-methionin solid and followed by recrystalize <br /> <br /> until solid is forming. The characterization of 5MSETI show that 5MSETI have melting point range from <br /> <br /> 145-146 °C, maximum absorbsion of UV-Vis on wavelenght of 266 nm, IR absorbsion on unique <br /> <br /> wavenumber of C=O on 1700 cm-1 and C-C on 3000 cm-1, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR. Corrosion inhibition <br /> <br /> parameter than measure through electrohemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS), weight loss measurement <br /> <br /> test(WLM), and Tafel extrapolation method. EIS result is that the best efficiency of corrosion inhibition <br /> <br /> occur for 5MSETI at 150 ppm with 45 °C with 93,58%. From EIS, we can tell that 5MSETI have <br /> <br /> adsorption properties of semi-physics and semi-chemical with the ΔGads is -35,63 kJ/mol. Next parameter <br /> <br /> measure is WLM with the best effiency at 150 ppm with 45 °C with 69,84% with corrosion rate at 0,41 <br /> <br /> mpy. Tafel reuslt is highest eficiency is at 125 ppm with 45 °C with 93,50%. From Tafel we can also <br /> <br /> know that 5MSETI is an inhibitor that work in anodic reaction with the potensial difference from the <br /> <br /> blank is >85mV. text |
