Description
Summary:
Protection forests have benefits in the form of area utilization, environmental services, and the production of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs). Protected forests in Garut area have a problem, that is in the form of changes forest vegetation cover to agricultural vegetation. To overcome these problems can be done with the land suitability evaluation in order to optimize the plant NTFPs protected forest land by considering the economic and ecological factors. Land evaluation is a process of assessing land resources for specific purposes using an approach. The results of the land evaluation will provide information and/or direction for land use in accordance with the designation. This study aims to determine the actual and potential land suitability classes in 51C Plot of Protection Forest, RPH Cisurupan, BKPH Bayongbong, KPH Garut, West Java Ragional Division Perum Perhutani which is divided into three blocks namely mixed forest block, agriculture and open areas. Direct observation in the field and soil sampling are used to determine the characteristics of the land. The data analysis use the matching method between the characteristics of the land with crops growth requirements of NTFPs and agricultural crops in the reserch site to determine the crop land suitability classes. The results showed that plants that have a class of land suitability highest on block mixed forest and agriculture is avocado (Persea americana) with suitability class of the actual land that is corresponding enough S2 (rc) with limiting factor coarse material and potential land suitability classes did not have a limiting factor because it has a suitability class that is suitable (S1) on any land characteristics, while at the block of open land is jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus) with the actual land suitability class marginal S3 (rc) and the potential land is corresponding enough S2 (rc) with texture limiting factor and depth of soil.
