Ocean waves are one of the sources of renewable energies in Indonesia, and Kupang Coast in East Nusa Tenggara province have ocean waves potency of 30.85 MWh/meters per year and 2nd lowest electrification ratio in Indonesia with 58.64% and need 526.35 GWh additional energy in 2045 by the projection of need in Kupang. Wave energy converters that been chosen for the study is Pelamis because the technology is applicable rather than other technology in wave energy converters. Energy that can be produced by the instrument is 404.9 MWh/instrument in Kupang Coast and it means that Kupang need 1300 instrument to achieve the additional 526.35 GWh. 31 instrument is used rather than 1300 instrument because it is considered illogical, 31 instrument is the highest amount of Pelamis that ever been used in renewable energy project. The total energy that can be produced by 31 instrument in Kupang Coast is 12,551.9 MWh per years. This project is assumed to have 25 years payback period and it needs 2.05 trillion Rupiah that consist of instrument cost, electricity components, shipping, operational, and maintenance. Cost of electricity per kWh of the project is Rp.6,750/kWh and compared to production cost of electricity in East Nusa Tenggara is Rp.2,677/kWh this renewable energy project is not feasible financially. Analyzed further by the source of the high cost is from Pelamis instrument giving 79.4% of the total cost and also Pelamis’s maintenance that cost 15.1% of the total cost. It shows wave energy converters technology is not commercially feasible for now and like the others technology it will get cheaper and will be financially feasible to applied.

text
