FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT OF PT TUGU PRATAMA INDONESIA IN COMPARISON WITH PUBLIC LISTED GENERAL INSURANCE COMPANIES IN INDONESIA

The general insurance industry has a very good performance in the last few years. Their gross premium income is always increasing although it is known that in 2008 global crisis happened. In the last few years, the growth of insurance company is quite fast. It is shown from the growth of gross premium income from 2005-2010 which reach 125%. In 2006, the gross premium from all general insurance company in Indonesia reach IDR 55.603 billion and in 2010 reach IDR 125.116 Billion. This great value of insurance growth shows us that the people of Indonesia already aware about the importance of insurance <br /> <br /> <br /> The main purpose of this research is to assess the financial performance of PT Tugu Pratama Indonesia, which is one of the biggest players of general insurance industry in Indonesia. This research compared the financial performance of PT Tugu with the industry average, which is taken from all general insurance company that listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange. There are four frameworks used to assess the financial performance, which are trend analysis, Infobank Scoring, DuPont Analysis and Performance Analysis Using Discriminant Factor. <br /> <br /> <br /> This research found that with Infobank Scoring and Performance Analysis Using Determinant Factor, PT Tugu Pratama Indonesia’s performance is very good. But it is not good as the other companies while using trend analysis and DuPont analysis. Its trend in ratio which related to profitability is not good enough. Tugu’s net profit margin, total assets turnover, ROA and ROE is not better than its competitor. <br /> <br /> <br /> In addition, the result suggest that PT Tugu Pratama Indonesia should generate more sales by using its assets more efficiently and also it must manage their investment better to become more profitable company, because the income of an insurance companies are coming from their premium income and gain from investment. <br /> <br /> <br /> Keywords: PT Tugu Pratama Indonesia, Financial Performance, General Insurance
