Influence of Thematic Kampong Program on Kampung Warna-Warni Jodipan in Malang City's Place Quality

Good place quality will provide optimal support for human livelihood in a region. Currently, many programs are developing to improve the quality of place, especially in urban areas. One of those programs is Thematic Kampong Program which has been implemented by Malang Government. Malang City is one of the cities that exploit the potential of its urban kampong as the base of city development through thematic kampong program. One example of the most significant change of the program is Kampung Warna-Warni Jodipan located in Jodipan Administrative Village, on the side of the Brantas River. The village which was not organized and irregular, located in riverbank that makes it look dirty, now is a popular tourist destination in the Malang because of its beauty. Nevertheless, Thematic Kampong Program can’t be continued to be done without seeing how much influence has been made on improving the quality of place. This evaluation study uses a pseudo evaluation approach. At the beginning of the study, eight criteria were developed to measure the quality of space at the kampong, namely amenity, health, safety, security, prosperity, accessibility, completeness, and attractiveness; each is derived into several assessment indicators. Based on the criteria and indicators that have been prepared, the quality of space will be reviewed objectively through observation and subjectively through the perception of residents. Based on the results of this research, it is found that Thematic Kampung Program not only changes the look outside Kampung Warna-Warni Jodipan The results of the evaluation indicate that there are several criterias of spatial quality which are also increasing by the influence of Thematic Kampong Program especially health, safety, prosperity, completeness, and attractiveness. There are also three criterias for the space quality of the kampong which are not changed by the program, specifically amenity, safety, and accessibility. Based on the evaluation results, there are no criterias of the space quality that are decreasing by the program. In the end, Thematic Kampong Program successfully managed to improve the quality of Kampung Warna-Warni Jodipan. <br /> <br /> <br /> Keywords: Quality of place, Evaluation, Thematic Kampong Program, Kampung Warna-Warni Jodipan. <br />
