Summary: |
Nickel mining industry is one of the largest industry in Indonesia. One of the most

generated solid waste of the nickel mining industry is nickel slag. Based on Government Regulation Number. 101 in 2014, nickel slag is classified as

hazardous waste (B3). Along with the increase of development in the mining

sector, the increase will occur also in the amount of waste produced, including the

hazardous waste (B3) which can harm the environment and human health.

Therefore, it is necessary efforts to use back the nickel slag into a be a safe

product to minimize environmental pollution.. Nickel slag utilization was

conducted by solidification into kanstin and paving block products. Nickel slag

was used as fine aggregate material to subtitude the sand. Compressive strength test results showed that the compressive strength of nickel slag waste

solidification products can be used as a paving block for class C and D. However,

no results of compressive strength which comply the requirements of the

compressive strength for kanstin products. The heavy metals test results showed

there are are 4 types of metal as a potential major polluters, Ni (310.5 mg / kg), Cr

(25.4 mg / kg), Co (4.1 mg / kg) and Zn (2.45 mg / kg). Heavy metals Zn and Cu selected as the leaching test parameters on nickel slag and solidification products.

Leaching of heavy metals is conducted on solidification products to identify potential pollution of heavy metals contained to the environment and human

health.
|
