In manufacturing, engineers should always design from the expectation of the customers. But sometimes the trade off between the manufacturing cost-quality loss is an issue in the research process. Consequently, engineers face competitive diversity by making compromises in choosing the right decision in tolerance design. <br /> <br /> <br /> Estimating the best product tolerance that affects the value for customer should be evaluated and determined to ensure the transfer function of a good quality design. Since the study of the process tolerance with variation and decision making are not only the end-user rise of satisfaction, but also the internal costs associated with. Thus, the tolerance analysis ensures the realization of the good process design of the product by considering the impact of variation, the associated cost and the utility function which is one of the most common activities of decision making that seek to optimize the value for customers. <br /> <br /> <br /> In this paper, a model for evaluating the expected utility theory of the unit cost and the product quality failure loss under Hurwicz’s criterion strategy is developed. By evaluating the process tolerance design, linear and quadratic loss function were considered. Then, the use of Hurwicz’s criterion, a classical decision rules, applied in decision making under uncertainty allow to find the optimal strategy for both interval and scenarios uncertainty to get a rational expected utility. The use of Hurwicz criterion offer a more flexible tolerance in the process design and display the minimum variation undergo by the product. Therefore, the optimization of the expected utility under Hurwicz’s criterion result in a flexible decision that manufacturer should expect by estimating the process tolerance to variation. <p align="justify"> <br /> text |
