Steam dominated geothermal well tend to have high enthalpy and potential to produce bigger source of energy. However, steam properties which is sensitive to pressure may cause geothermal well exploitation to be not optimal. Therefore, pressure drop modelling in steam dominated geothermal well is required. There are various correlations made to predict pressure drop in two-phase flow in geothermal well. A number of previous studies on the different flow correlations have been conducted to assess their applicability in geothermal well. In this study, we will compare the performance of five two-phase flow correlations in modelling pressure profile in steam dominated geothermal well on three geothermal wells. The correlations to be compared are Chierici et.al., Lockhart-Martinelli, Harrison Freeston, Duns and Ros, and Hagedorn-Brown correlations. From the modelling results, it is obtained that the Hagedorn-Brown correlations produces the smallest overall error, whereas Lockhart-Martinelli correlations produces the greatest overall error. Finally, this comparison can be used as a reference in modelling steam dominated geothermal well to optimize geothermal field development such as optimal well design and surface facilities. text |
