Summary: | Well stimulation methods that are commonly used by oil and gas industry consist of three types. These are hydraulic fracturing, matrix acidizing, and acid fracturing. Hydraulic fracturing and matrix acidizing are the most widely used methods as well stimulation methods. In addition of both methods, there are also other method, that is acid fracturing. Acid fracturing stimulation method is a combination of hydraulic fracturing and matrix acidizing well stimulation methods. In this method, reservoir rock are fractured by fracturing fluid and then injected by acid so that the fracture at reservoir rock have longer reach, as a result the wellbore permeability increase and at greater radius than matrix acidizing. However acid fracturing application is limited to carbonate reservoirs, because when this method applied at sandstone reservoir there will appear formation collapse risk and sand problem. <br />

On acid fracturing, the type of fluid generally used is hydrochloric acid (HCl), but HCl have some disadvantages such as corrosion problems and could form oil/acids slug on high asphaltene oil. One of the solution of this problems is the use of organic acids. Organic acids such as acetic acid (CH3COOH) and formic acid (HCOOH) have been used for several times as alternative the use of hydrchloric acid (HCl) due to low corrosivity and could not form form oil/acids slug on high asphaltene oil also have slower reaction rate than HCl. This paper will discussed efectivity and economics the use of organic acids and hydrochloric acid (HCl) in acid fracturing method using FracCADE simulator. Modelling in simulation using hypotheses data that corresponding with actual condition. Fluid and acid characteristics and also other data that used in the simulation obtained from literature study that correspond with the actual condition |
