As an example are ring with Sundanese characteristic that produce by kamasan from Batukarut. Many of Sundanese people doesn’t knew any more of Sundanese ring and kamasan as a crafter of it. Although Sundanese people still has been interacting with kamasan since prior 1950s decade until the end of 1980s decade, but that has change now. To understand this condition then this research was performed with kualitative methods and ethnography approach related to Sundanese ring and kamasan from Batukarut. At first the Sundanese ring definitely made according to the guidance of Sundanese culture and made by traditional precious metal craftsman (kamasan). Ancient Sundanese manuscript recorded the existence of kamasan that also noted by western orientalist who studied society in Java Island. In an attempt to understanding ring making and characteristic of kamasan, a kamasan who still exist in Sundanese society was studied. Kamasan from Batukarut is one of kamasan around Bandung city and still exist until to day. Groups of kamasan is easier to find and still produce Sundanese ring that common used by peoples around Bandung city until end of 1980s decade. Production of the ring shape depend on agreement of kamasan and buyer. After passing end decade of 1980s, Sundanese people doesn’t know kamasan well anymore. That’s affected by many sircumstances happened on Sundanese peoples. Consequently Sundanese people understanding and knowledge of kamasan existence has been change, especially on younger generation. Along with this much of kamasan skills, abilities and wisdom began to become extinct. Consideration of kamasa transformation also the way inherited of skills, abilities and knowledge is important to be changed. text
