In this work, purification of xylitol fermentation broth from hydrolyzed OPEFB using Debaromyces hansenii is conducted using ultrafiltration (UF) and electrodeionization (EDI) membrane. The optimum conditions for purification of xylitol from xylose, acetic acid, and salts, in a model solution using EDI membrane were evaluated while optimum conditions for pretreatment using UF were obtained from previous study. The optimum current density, concentrate flow rate, and dilute flow rate were found to be 22,5 A/m2, 470 mL/minute, and 580 mL/minute, respectively. The validation experiment using the OPEFB hydrolysate fermentation broth, which had been purified using UF, showed that UF-EDI membrane was able to remove impurities namely yeast cell, biomass, and other ionic impurities.<p align="justify"> text |
