Description
Summary:The theoretical potency of Renewable Enegy (RE) in Indonesia can reach 443 GW [1]. This number can fulfil the electricity needs in Indonesia starting from now until the future. One type of RE is sea energy, which is not really concerned, although ¾ of Indonesia region is water. There are many energy potencies of Indonesia sea, but for this Final Project, the writer focus on the usage of wave energy because environmental friendly and the mechanism of energy conversion is simpler than the others kind of sea energy, thus it is possible to be manufactured. Wave energy is so promising in Indonesia because of the high energy density until 108 kW/m and the consistency on harvesting energy by using Wave Energy Converter (WEC). According to Trisdian, the most appropriate WEC for Indonesia sea is type of Point Absorber (PA) after analyzing the cost, the oceanographic theory in wave energy, environment, and so on.

In this Final Project, the writer made the simple WEC PA equipped by the mechanism of energy absorption and the measureing of absorbed forced from wave to buoy. The writer did the experiment to compare the writer’s wave dynamic mathematical model with the obtained data, thus the writer got the relation of absorbed force with the buoy dimension and wave data either theoretically or through experiments.
