Description
Summary:The presence of criticism in the art world signifies a response to the problems of art. Critics are one of the most intense actors in criticizing a work and art event. Art criticism also serves as a medium of public appreciation of art works. This type of criticism of journalistic art is the closest to the appreciation of this society. This thesis examines the criticism of TEMPO magazine art from 1998 - 2015.

The criticism research of TEMPO magazine uses a qualitative approach, with a written examination related to the application of the Feldman criticism stage and the 5W + 1H journalism element. The classification of each article is divided into groups of articles consisting of the use of each of its critical stages, namely; Description, Formal Analysis, Interpretation and Evaluation. The problem of this research is to know about how the writing of art criticism in TEMPO magazine since 1998 - 2015?, and how the quality standard of writing criticism of TEMPO magazine art is measured from the application of Feldman art critic stages?

Journalistic art criticism in TEMPO magazine has an important role in the effort to increase the artistic insight to the community. In fact, most of the use of the criticisms in each article contains only the stages: "description only", "description-interpretation" and "descriptions-evaluation", indicating that the TEMPO magazine's criticism form is a news coverage rather than an art critique. Thus, it reduces the quality of criticism that reflects the standard of understanding of artwork, which is actually needed by society.
