Description
Summary:Vulnerability assessment of a bridge exposed to seismic loading is essential to ensure safety and serviceability of bridge during and after an earthquake, one of which, by developing analytical fragility curve. Fragility curve describes the probability of a bridgereaching or exceedinga particular damage state for a given ground motion intensity. Fragility curve can be used to identify bridge’s potential damage and performance level at certain level of seismic intensity.

This study presents seismic fragility assessment by developing fragility curve of an existing multi-span continuous prestressed concrete box girder highway bridge located in Jakarta, namely JLNT Tendean Bridge. Since Jakarta is one of region in Indonesia with high level of seismic intensity, fragility assessment of bridges subjected to earthquake load need to be performed. The development of fragility curve is referto Hazard United Stated (HAZUS). The fragility curve is developed by performing Non-Linear Time History Analysis (NLTHA) on 3D analytical bridge model using MIDAS CIVIL 2011 program. A suite of site specific ground motions of Jakarta region which has been scaled to various level of seimic intensity is used as seismic input. Damage states resulting from earthquake loading are then identified from seismic responses obtained from NLTHA resultsbased on demand parameter threshold value of each damage state suggested by NCHRP 440 (2013).

The developed fragility curve shows thatthe moderate damage state can occur at JLNT Tendean due to Seismic Design Loadand performance level is categorized as “Life Safety”. The complete damage statewith 50% probability ofexceedance canoccur on seismic event with PGA of 1.18g. Based on this study,it is concluded that the JLNT Tendean has low seismic vulnerability.

Keywords: Fragility curve, Seismic vulnerability, HAZUS, NLTHA, NCHRP440
