Summary: | The existence of shrimp ponds in the coastal area of Bantul Regency has considerable potential to be developed and provide benefits to the community in this region, and generally for the development of the aquaculture in Indonesia. Actually, management of shrimp farming activities that exist in the region, is considered need to be studied based on the principle of sustainability. The study becomes so important because there are still many problems due to the managerial aspects that have not been in line with the principles of sustainability. This study aims to examine various aspects of shrimp farming management through ecological, economic, and social dimensions, to identify the sustainability status of existing shrimp farming in this area, as the basis for the preparation of sustainable shrimp farming management strategies in coastal area of Bantul Regency. This research is a survey research that was conducted in four main stages of research technique, including: 1) identification and preparation of sustainability aspects and attributes, 2) analysis of sustainability status, 3) the determination of significant attributes, and 4) the formulation of management strategies. Respondents in this study were determined by accidental sampling until the data and information that are needed have saturated. Primary data collection was done by direct field observation, laboratory test, interview, and questionnaire. Secondary data is collected through literature review and data collection from related government department. Data analysis was done by Rapid Appraisal for Fisheries (RAPFISH) method and approach of QSPM (Quantitative Strategic Planning Matrix) method. The results showed that the sustainability status of shrimp ponds in coastal areas of Bantul Regency was categorized as less sustainable based on the study of ecological, economic and social dimension, with a sustainability index of 45.72. The sustainability status of the ecological dimension is included in the less sustainable criteria with a sustainability index of 41.67. The most significant attribute on the ecological dimension is the attribute of the existence of the AMDAL document (RMS = 7.76%). The sustainability status of the economic dimension is included in the sustainability criteria with a sustainability index of 55.77, with the most significant attribute being the contribution to GRDP (RMS = 8.53%). The sustainability index on the social dimension is 38.71 so it is included in the less sustainable criteria. The most significant attribute on social dimension is the existence of formal regulations (RMS = 4.59%). Formulation of sustainable shrimp pond management strategies in coastal area of Bantul Regency resulted in 20 alternative strategies with 5 priority strategies, in sequence: a) designing and implementing The Better Management Practice as well as biosecurities that are appropriate with the area condition, to ensure environmental quality improvement and quality of shrimp production (TAS=0,490), b) forming the management in groups that can improve shrimp farm management in improvement of production, waste management, quality improvement of maintenance pool, business license, procurement of AMDAL documents, procurement of green belt, improvement of sales system, and minimizing conflict incident (TAS=0.378), c) making formal regulations that relate to environmental protection and protection of shrimp farmers (TAS=0.373), d) undertaking the re-arrangement of green belt, shrimp pond location and waste management pond to make the cultivation environment more sustainable (TAS=0,323), and e) initiating the intensification of shrimp pond farming in order to increase production and contribution to PDRB, and increase of labor absorption (TAS=0,243). Implementation of management strategies are divided into short-term implementation (1st to 3rd year), medium-term implementation (4th to 5th year), and long-term implementation (6th to 20th year). Through these various stages of implementation, it is expected that the status of shrimp farming in the coastal area of Bantul Regency becomes sustainable,and Bantul becomes a center of shrimp farming pilot that supports sustainable development in Indonesia generally. |
