POTENTIAL DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY OF MAKASSAR CITY TOWARDS WORLD CLASS CITY

<br /> <br /> The development of the city from time to time provides a challenge to produce a variety of ways to improve the standard of living. In Indonesia, the spatial arrangement has been regulated in Law no. 26 year 2007 about spatial arrangement giving authority to urban area in accordance with ability and potency owned like Jakarta and Surabaya applying Smart city, Bandung and Pekalongan applying creative city concept. Urban concepts in Indonesia are also confronted by urban challenges such as climate change, economy, urbanization, land and food constraints. The challenge of urban development is also a global competition that demands the city to be able to act as a competitive and internationally competitive place such as attractive for investment, supporting facilities in business activities, interesting to visit and safe and comfortable. Different from those cities, the city of Makassar initiated the city of Makassar became World Class City. The World Class City is depicted with a city that has a life support and is able to support the various activities of its people and migrants from other cities. The city of the world is certainly faced in the flow of urbanization in the era of globalization where every city has almost no administrative limits in doing its activities. Research carried out for the explanation of the World Class City of Makassar City and identified Makassar's potential Makassar city and developing the potential strategy to push the city of Makassar into a world-class city. Through observation, interviews and literature review it can be seen that the city of Makassar City Government is a conceptual development of the World Development and Sustainable Development Objectives. In addition, the city of Makassar is strategically location and supported by infrastructure. But in the role of communication network to run the programs of Makassar city to the world class city, the role of the mayor is very big and bad if there is a change of government. To achieve the goal of Makassar to become a world city then formulated strategies based on strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats one of which is improving the quality of infrastructure and improvement of world city indicators that have been made. <br /> <br /> <br /> Keywords: Urban concept, Global city, World city, Makassar, Strategy <br />
