Summary: |
Indonesia's electricity needs continue to increase as the population increases. The electricity needs come from household, industry, business, social, government office and public road lighting. However, to meet the electricity demand, almost 50% is supplied by coal-fired power plants and only 12% of the electricity is supplied by renewable energy sources plants. The purpose of this undergraduate final project is to obtain the optimum design of Savonius turbine under the operating conditions of the water-cooled air-condensor channel. The design modeling is done by varying two turbine geometry parameters, aspect ratio and the overlap ratio. The designed Savonius turbine are simulated using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software in order to know the performance of the Savonius turbine. The simulation result shows that from 12 turbine models designed, the highest-performing Savonius turbine is a turbine with geometry height of 2 m, blade diameter of 0.59 m, turbine diameter of 1 m and overlap of 0.177 m, which can generate power at rate 4392 Watt and working at rotational speed of 6 rad/s.
|
