Description
Summary:
Life-Supporting System and Carrying Capacity, of Ecosystem were included as an important indicator for the government in decision making to ensure the sustainability of land resources exploitation and developmental program. Based on the needs of the spatial model of CC at regency/city level, in this research, spatial modeling was done by quantitative approach with the aim of knowing the threshold status of CC for each regency/city and distribution patterns of CC in the form of a map, with the area of administrative regency/city in the Bandung Basin as the study area. In this study, closed system is applied to determine the CC status which is based solely on the potential of existing resources in the region without taking into account the flow of material in or out of the system. Ecosystem services of food and water are used as a quantitative approach to determine CC. Steps being taken include the distribution of the population in the grid system, the calculation and distribution of the difference in energy availability of foodstuffs and the difference in water availability, and determination of CC status based on the threshold. The distribution has been done by using multiscale grid system with 5″ × 5″, resolution to accommodate the various sets and scale of data which are being used in this research. The result shows, 89.63% of Sumedang Regency; 65.96% of Bandung Regency; 59.54% of Bandung Barat Regency; 4.71% of Cimahi City; and 0.18% of Bandung City are still able to support the needs of its people based on food provisioning services. While based on the water provisioning services, 53.34% of Sumedang Regency; 49.06% of Bandung Regency; 41.39% of Bandung Barat Regency; 4.71% of Cimahi City; and 0.18% of Bandung City are still able to support the needs of its people.
